Vehicle Burglaries, Cab Fare Stiffed: Police Blotter

Theft of Services
At 3 a.m. Jan. 27, officers were dispatched to the C Building at the Heights of Collingswood for an argument among an unknown number of individuals.

A taxi service picked up Thomas Ambrose, 27, of Collingswood in the 2700 block of Admiral Wilson Blvd. and transported him to several locations within the city of Camden before taking him home to Heights of Collingswood.

When they reached his destination, Ambrose revealed he was unable to pay the $40 cab fare, and attempted to skedaddle, police said. The cab driver, however, tracked him down and detained him until police could arrive. Ambrose was charged with theft of services and released on his own recognizance. 

Vehicle Accident
At 5:15 a.m. Jan. 17, officers were dispatched to the Gulf gas station in the area of Route 130 and Sloan Ave. to investigate the report of a motor vehicle crash.

A vehicle attempting a lane change on the southbound side of the road struck another in the middle lane, which careened into the median and overturned.

Two people sustained injuries in the collision; none were life-threatening, and both patients were transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden. Due to the impending civil litigation, police offered no comment on the investigation. 

Vehicle Burglaries
On Jan. 22, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Magill Ave. for the report of a vehicle burglary. The owner of the vehicle realized a TomTom GPS was missing from the center console of a vehicle that had been unsecured, and which was parked in the driveway.

Later that day, approximately $2 in coins was removed from another unsecured vehicle in the 200 block of Sloan Ave. No evidence was left behind at the scene of either incident.  

DWI
At 12 p.m. on Jan. 26, Collingswood Police stopped a vehicle on Lincoln Ave. for a motor vehicle violation. After making contact with the driver, Barbara Hutchinson, 40, of Collingswood, the officer detected an odor of alcohol on her breath and noted that her speech seemed slurred.

Prior to taking the breathalyzer test, Hutchinson requested medical treatment for an unknown illness, and was transported to a local hospital. There, a blood kit was performed, the results of which police are awaiting. Hutchinson was cited for public intoxication and suspicion of driving while intoxicated (DWI).
