Neighbor Foils Reported Burglary on Collingswood-Haddon Twp. Border

Police say a phone call from an alert neighbor in the 900 block of Belmont Ave. in Haddon Township broke up a burglary Tuesday morning.

Units from Collingswood and Haddon Township rushed to the block shortly after 10:30 a.m. on a phone tip that a door had been kicked in. Inside the home, they found James Richardson, 25, of Oaklyn, hiding in a second-floor bathroom.

The caller had provided a detailed description matching that of Richardson, who was apprehended on-site. He was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.

"The Haddon Township Police Department would like to remind residents to properly secure their homes at all times and to contact the police IMMEDIATELY if they observe someone suspicious in their neighborhoods," Haddon Township police said in a statement.

"Suspicious individuals would include someone knocking on your door that you do not know or expect. Many burglars use door-to-door solicitations as a ruse in an attempt to determine if anyone is home prior to committing a burglary," the statement read.

There is no word yet whether Richardson is believed to have anything to do with any of several daytime burglaries reported in the area in recent weeks.
