Monday Fire Consumes Cherry Hill Office Building

The two-story blaze blew out windows at the Adventure Unlimited/Quantum Travel building and drew responders from neighboring towns.

A fire at a two-story Cherry Hill office building shut down traffic in the westbound lane of Route 70 around 10 p.m. Monday night, as emergency responders from at least three towns cordoned off the area while they battled the flames.

The building in question once housed the Adventure Unlimited/Quantum Travel agency; the property is believed to have been vacant at the time of the fire.

No one was injured in the incident, said Cherry Hill Fire Marshal Tom Shemeley, and the cause of the fire was not immediately known.

Property damage, however, was visible and significant. Smoke climbed into the August evening; the second-floor window frames of the building were blackened and the glass had been either shattered or knocked out in the extinguishment of the fire.

Traffic controls were established to divert motorists from the densely traveled intersection of Kings Highway and Route 70, formerly the Ellisburg Circle.

In addition to apparatus from various branches of the Cherry Hill F.D., other companies on hand included those from the Pennsauken and Westmont. chief Keith Davis confirmed that borough resources were not deployed in this incident.
