Police Charge Two Men Following Pursuit on Route 42

Joseph Cameron and Joseph Grant had two bags of marijuana hidden in the car.

Two Pennsville men have been charged with eluding police and marijuana possession following a car chase involving Gloucester Township Police Thursday afternoon.

Joseph Cameron Jr., 20, was charged with resisting arrest (eluding) and possession of a controlled dangerous substance for two bags of marijuana found hidden in the car. He was also issued multiple motor vehicle violations.

Joseph Grant, 20, was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Penns Grove.

The pursuit began after police noticed a Nissan Maxima travelling on Erial Road in the Blackwood section of the township with an expired inspection sticker, police said Friday morning.

The officer attempted to stop the Maxima, which proceeded onto Route 42 North despite the cop activating his emergency lights.

The officer pursued the Maxima until it eventually stopped at the Bellmawr exit. The officer conducted what police described as a “high risk car stop” before taking both men into custody.

Cameron was remanded to Camden County Jail in default of $20,000 bail. Grant was released of his own recognizance.
