An open car door tipped off a Collingswood Police officer to a vehicle burglary in progress, and spared a lucky driver the hassle of being a victim.
At 3:30 a.m. on June 29, an officer on patrol in the Heights of Collingswood noticed the door of a 2007 Chevrolet was ajar. The vehicle had been parked facing the White Horse Pike.
Upon closer inspection, the officer discovered 18-year-old Evan Wallace of Collingswood allegedly rooting around in the back seat of the car.
Wallace was charged with
burglary and third-degree theft. Unable to post 10 percent of his $7,500 bail, Wallace was sent to the Camden County correctional facility.
Just five days earlier, police recovered a 2001 GMC that had been stolen from the "C" Tower at the Heights of Collingswood.
The vehicle had been located in the 2100 block of E. Auburn Street in Philadelphia, unoccupied, and with minimal damage to its steering column.
