Collingswood Man Allegedly Flees Accident, Charged with DWI

Vaughn Hawkins, 41, allegedly struck a curb on the Champion Avenue overpass, abandoned his vehicle, and was arrested at his home.

Police say that a Collingswood man who allegedly crashed his car on the West side of town and then fled the scene on foot was driving under the influence of alcohol.

On October 30, officers who were dispatched to the area of Champion and Magill Avenues for a noise complaint discovered a gold Chevrolet Impala that appeared to have been in an accident.

Police said the vehicle showed significant front-end damage and a deployed airbag after apparently having struck a high curb on the Champion Avenue overpass. En route to the location, police encountered a man in the area of Harrison Avenue who appeared to have fled the scene.
