Camden Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Selling Large Amounts of PCP

A Camden man who dealt large amounts of PCP was sentenced to 10 years in state prison on Friday, Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman announced.

Raymond Thomas, 34, will serve five years and nine months of his 10-year sentence without the possibility of parole, Hoffman said. On Aug. 26, Thomas pleaded guilty to first-degree possession of PCP with intent to distribute.

 “PCP is a particularly volatile drug which can induce violent or self-destructive behavior, as witnessed by several murders attributed to PCP in Camden in recent years,” Hoffman said. “By peddling this deadly drug, Thomas showed a callous disregard for others. This lengthy prison term will stop him from dealing his poison on the streets of Camden.”

“Drug trafficking in general contributes directly to crime and violence, and PCP is especially destructive because of its impact on users and those around them,” Division of Criminal Justice Director Elie Honig said. “Thomas was a major PCP dealer, and now he is going to prison for a long time.”

Thomas was arrested in January and indicted in May after State Police learned he was selling PCP out of his Atlantic Avenue home in Camden. On Jan. 25, police searched his home and confiscated over 40 grams of PCP and $4,452.
