Camden County Police Department to Open Substation in Camden May 1

The substation will be adjacent to the city's Fairview and Morgan Village Neighborhoods.

The Camden County Police Department is opening a substation at 2881 Mount Ephraim Avenue in Camden to enhance the department’s community-centered method of policing.

The substation will be adjacent to the city’s Fairview and Morgan Village Neighborhoods, and is set to open May 1.

“The opening of this substation is an important addition to the neighborhood, as it increases police visibility and decreases travel time,” Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. said.  “It is an excellent example of community policing in action.  It facilitates officers interacting with the public and businesses owners for the betterment of the community.”

Staffing for this substation is possible because the department has 330 sworn officers, with another 80 set to graduate from the Camden County Police Academy in June.

“By this summer, we will have 411 officers working the streets of the county seat fighting crime that for years has deteriorated the quality of life of our residents,” Cappelli said.  “I’m proud to proclaim that we are making serious headway at reducing crime.”

Crime in Camden has dropped through the first three months of the year, according to statistics released by the department earlier this week.

“The physical, tangible presence of this new tool will give residents the opportunity to be close to an operating police station without having to travel to the 800 block Federal Street,” Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson said. “This substation will be an asset to South Camden and the overall community.”
