Alleged Hearse Theft, Bear Sighting Top Weird Crime News

Also, three people allegedly steal ATVs, but can't get away from cops.

Each week, Patch combs through the more shocking, surprising and often absurd alleged criminal acts and police-related incidents that unfold around the region. Here’s what went on in the last week for OMG PD.

The return of the Moorestown Bear? Residents in West Deptford's Red Bank neighborhood called in state Fish and Wildlife officials after apparently spotting a black bear near the edge of Sunoco's Eagle Point complex—but unlike the Moorestown Bear saga a month ago, the bear never came into contact with any people, police said.

What part of "for emergencies only" isn't clear? Camden County officials took a page out of The Onion ahead of the Fourth of July, going so far as to release a statement asking residents not to call 911 for information about fireworks and parades. Other things you shouldn't call 911 about include whether FOX will ever renew Firefly, whether Paul McCartney being barefoot on the cover of Abbey Road really meant he was dead, where you can find some good pizza and literally anything that isn't an emergency.
If only they'd alleged stolen getaway vehicles: Three Camden residents were arrested after trying to make off with ATVs from a Gloucester Township apartment complex, police said. Two were caught red-handed with one of the vehicles, police said, while the other tried to make off with two of them in a cab.
Like an unaired episode of The Munsters: You want weird? OK, how about a teenager allegedly stealing a hearse? Not weird enough? How about police saying she stole it from her family's funeral home? Right.
Injury to insult: A man wanted for allegedly running a pool liner scam ended up running into one of the people he scammed—quite literally, police said. Frank Starzi II was spotted by one of his victims at another home in Maple Shade, police said, and took off when confronted, running over the one victim's foot in the process.
