February is American Heart Month and it also marks the 11th anniversary of the American Heart Association’s (AHA) “Go Red for Women” campaign.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States and accounts for one out of three female deaths annually. Every minute one woman dies because of heart disease, according to the AHA.

With a goal to help save lives, Lourdes Health System is supporting the AHA’s “Go Red for Women” campaign. Lourdes associates are asked to wear red or a “Go Red” pin on February 7. Lourdes will also light its Blessed Mother statue red in support of heart disease awareness.

About 43 million women are currently living with heart disease. The “Go Red” campaign asks that all women wear red, live a healthy lifestyle and speak red by spreading the message that heart disease is the number one killer of women in the U.S. By spreading the message, the hope is that women will live a longer, stronger life and encourage loved ones to do the same.
