Well, they’re at it again.
The allure of prix fixe menus has once again lowered its seductive eyes in Collingswood’s direction, setting up what will likely be the first of three Restaurant Weeks to come in 2013.
Monday, Jan. 21 kicks off "Homestyle Classics Restaurant Week," in which “the kind of cooking, flavors, and tastes you remember from your mother’s kitchen” come to Restaurant Row, reads a release from the borough.
The idea was conceived by Tortilla Press chef Mark Smith who, after visiting his family back in Ohio a few years ago, was teased that he wouldn’t be able to enjoy their cooking anymore because he owned a Mexican restaurant.
Smith got to thinking, which led to the big event next week.
As per typical Restaurant Week protocol, each participating restaurant will feature a prix fixe menu. This week is unique, however, in that each restaurant will set its own prices and numbers of courses. The fare will be focused on simple comfort food (with a gourmet twist).
The following restaurants are participating, but not all have submitted their menus yet. Check back; as they become available, we will link to them from this story.
The Tortilla Press

The Pop Shop
- BREAKFAST ($12): Any Bettys (pancake), side of bacon/turkey bacon and coffee.
- LUNCH: ($13) Any grilled cheese (except Calvert or 5B’s), cup of tomato soup, side of Pop shop fries and soft drink.
- DINNER: ($13) Chicken pot pie, turkey platter, or mac and cheese; cup of tomato soup, small side salad and soft drink.
- Add a hot fudge sundae: $4.
$25 for three courses (choose one from each).
- Spinach and artichoke dip
- Aji de gallina croquette
- Mini pulled-pork slider
- Ecuadorian Grandma’s broccoli soup topped with bacon bites
- House Salad
- Ecuadorian seco de pollo (award winning dish): Beer-braised chicken stew with onion, carrots, and tomato served with a side of rice and plantain.
- Homemade Argentinean: Layered mashed potato and ground beef sautéed Argentinean style with onion, bell pepper, egg, raisins (just like our Argentinean beef empanadas stuffing)
- Peruvian roasted fried chicken: Peruvian style rotisserie chicken and then fried (home-style fried like in the South) served with a side of mashed potato.
- El Sitio ½ rack of ribs: Cooked in our chef’s delicious secret recipe, served with a side of French fries. ($3 extra or full rack for $5.50 extra)
