Grab & Go Kids Planner: Phenomenal February

A Valentine's Day dance party, cooking and crafting, and computer programming classes for young kids highlight Patch's round-up of weekend activities for families and children February 10-12, 2012.

Where: Seventh Avenue School
            316 Seventh Ave., Haddon Heights

When: Friday, Feb. 10
           6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: Ten bucks gets the whole family out for an evening of deejayed music, facepainting, crafts, and games.

Cost: $10 per family at the door.

Where: All Pottery Barn locations

When: Saturday, Feb. 11
           3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Why Go: Bring your favorite doll or stuffed animal to enjoy this special tea party, complete with stories, light refreshments, and themed crafts. 

Cost: Free, but registration is required. Call your local Pottery Barn to reserve your spot. 


Event: Kids in The Kitchen—Valentine's Goodies 

Where: Wegmans
            2 Centerton Rd., Mt. Laurel   

When: Saturday, Feb. 11
           11 a.m. to 12 noon

Why Go: A hands-on class in making everyone's favorite Valentine's Day goodies. Little chefs will prepare fruit tarts, fruit smoothies, and Happy Hearts Trail Mix. There will also be a crafting session for children to make cards for that special someone in their lives. 

Cost: $5 per child-and-parent team with a Wegmans Shoppers Club card, $10 without. Tickets must be purchased in advance from the store Service Desk.

 

Event:  Pro Bot/Bee Bot Programming Class

Where: Rhinoceros Toy Store
            107 Kings Hwy. E., Haddonfield 

When: Saturday, Feb. 11
           10 a.m. (Bee Bot Class), 11 a.m. (Pro Bot Class)

Why Go: Programming adventures for budding computer gurus. Younger Bee Bots will learn to find a target while reinforcing basic letter and number recognition skills. More advanced Pro Bots will learn how to code basic geometric shapes and create a design plan for robots to draw their shapes.

If your children aren't interested in programming, they can also make hanging decorations, potholders, and beaded necklace or bracelet crafts. Can't make the Saturday class? Groups of four or more Bots can call 856-429-1841 to set up their own private group.

Cost: $20 per child for a three-session Bee Bot class, $25 per child for a three-session Pro Bot class. 

 

Event: Story Time

Where:             602 Haddon Ave., Collingswood 

When: Wednesday, Feb. 8 (10 a.m.)
           Thursday, Feb. 9 (1 p.m.)
           Saturday, Feb. 10 (10 a.m.)

Why Go: Staff members read The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse, the exciting new tale from acclaimed children's writer Eric Carle (The Very Hungry Caterpillar) , and experience his childhood worldview through Carle's signature art. After the story, children will paint their very own small lying horse ceramics.
