Collingswood: TOO MANY DOGS

There are simply too many dogs in Collingswood. Advocates for dogs have pushed their agenda on Collingswood residents with success. Childless professionals and young families alike have joined in seeking a cause they think will be fun and easy. On every block there are barking dogs. They can be heard in yards, at front windows and inside homes even where people share common walls. At every event including the Saturday farmers market we are confronted with dogs. They rub up against your clothing, deposit saliva on your skin or clothes and sometimes aggress. Pit bulls are the most recent promotion trend. And frankly, they are scarey.  I know its difficult for dog people to imagine but there is a community of people who simply do not like dogs. The dog folks want us to believe we are no less than evil for not wanting dogs forced on us. Sometimes they are down right hostile. Collingswood may soon be overpopulated with dogs. There needs to be some structure in place that will truly control the prolific occurance of dogs. There needs to be real solutions to unsocialized dog behavior. Living in an urban/suburban environment should not mean diminished quality of life.
