Funeral Monday for Man Killed in Newton Lake

Richard Phillips III was a Rutgers accounting and business administration major when he died. His funeral is Monday in Collingswood.

Richard Phillips III will be laid to rest Monday after funeral services in Collingswood, according to an announcement posted by .

Phillips died Wednesday after his car was found . Phillips had driven his car through a wooden fence, knocking over a park bench, tree and lamp post before . Police believe his car could have been submerged for almost 90 minutes before a county worker discovered it.

RICHARD "Rick" PHILLIPS, III
Age 21 Oaklyn

Passed away, suddenly on December 7, 2011, He was the beloved son of Richard, Jr. & Carol L. (nee McConnell) Phillips; brother of Christy & Brett; grandson of Richard, Sr. & Harriet Phillips and Jill McConnell & the late John McConnell, Sr.; nephew of Jack & Kelly McConnell, Tom & Rachael McConnell, Colleen & Guido Babore, Maureen & Hans Houser and Doreen & Alan Wright; additionally survived by many loving cousins.

Rick was an altar server at St. Aloysius Church, Oaklyn and attended St. John's Elementary School, Collingswood where he developed his love of Track & Field. A member of Paul VI High School Class of '08 & its Track Team, Rick was currently a senior at Rutgers University studying Business Administration & Accounting.

Viewing Sunday 2-5 p.m. in , 226 Collings Ave., Collingswood. Funeral Monday 9 a.m. from the funeral home. Funeral Mass 11 a.m. in , Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Collingswood.

The family respectfully suggests donations in Rick's memory be offered to Paul VI High School Track Team, 901 Hopkins Road, Haddon Twp., NJ 08033.
