The 15 NJ Towns With The Highest Property Taxes

New Jersey residents pay some of the highest property taxes in America. But even in a state bursting with five-figure tax bills, some towns stand atop the tax pyramid.

We decided to dive into data on the state’s Division of Taxation site to determine in which towns residents paid the highest average property taxes in 2012. If you’re curious where your town or county stands, the full list is here.

We removed the top two towns on the list because of their size. Tavistock in Camden County, population 5, topped the tax list with an average bill of $23,870. Deciding whether or not to include the second town on the list, Loch Arbour, was a little tougher, but with only 194 residents we decided to exclude it. Residents in the tiny shore town nestled between Allenhurst and Asbury Park coughed up an average of $23,329 in taxes.
