Holiday or not, there's a Commissioners meeting this week. Plus: Second Saturday, a comedy benefit, and events to kick off the upcoming Book Festival.

A pair of Collingswood local government bodies will host their monthly meetings this week. Ordinances that could be on the table at the Tuesday night Commissioners meeting include:

  • 1519, which amends the regulations governing
  • 1522, which requires property owners to obtain a two-week permit from the before putting a dumpster, P.O.D. or roll-off container on their properties.
  • 1523, which would approve a five-year PILOT agreement between the borough and Dr. John B. Tedeschi, who plans to construct a medical office at 204 White Horse Pike.
  • 1524, which requires pet owners who keep their animals outdoors to build chain-link pens and doghouses in the rear of their properties in which to house them; to feed and water their pets daily and sanitize their food and water dishes; and to keep these areas free of waste.

Collingswood comedian will emcee this two-hour comedy show to benefit the (Patch-co-sponsored) Before the Bridge Music Festival. $20 gets you in the door, and includes beer, wine, and snacks. Performers include Mike Smith and Ron Kelly of the Collingswood Community Theatre join Leslie Woodward, Pat Barker, and headliner Norm Klar.

Sat., 9/8/12 at 5 p.m.

Finalists in the South Jersey Magazine-sponsored Battle of the Bands talent competition headline the monthly live performances at the weekend arts and music fair. They'll go live at 5 p.m. in front of the old Zane Schoolhouse at the corner of Haddon and Irvin Aves.

Local artists and crafters will, of course, have their wares on display. The theme of the evening is the upcoming .

Sat., 9/8/12 at 4 p.m. - 729 Haddon Ave.

The official launch party for the Collingswood Book Festival Art Gallery kicks off during Second Saturday. The exhibit will feature works from Tony Auth, E.B. Lewis, Robert Hochgertel, Robert Byrd, Dar Hosta. Timothy Young, Barbara Patrizzi, Amanda D’Amico, and Nicole Eiland.

The gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday through the Book Festival.

Artists and Books, "explores the artists’ vision as they transform books into monumental works of art and sculpture." This exhibition is part of the Perkins Center Social Artworking project, and runs through November 10. The official opening of the exhibit will be October 13 from 6-9 p.m.
