$175K Collingswood Cash Sale Saturday Morning

The limited-opportunity promotion gives holiday shoppers $20 free for every $50 in town-wide gift certificates bought—and boy, does it sell out fast.

It's that time of year again, Collingswood shoppers.

A week ahead of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and...whatever nickname is being given to Thanksgiving Day shopping events...the borough Business Improvement District is greasing the wheels for local shopaholics with an infusion of Collingswood Cash.

The town-wide gift certificate sale kicks off at 9 a.m., when shoppers will earn an extra $20 gift certificate for every $50 in Collingswood Cash purchased.

"The Borough will sell $125,00 worth of Collingswood Cash and give away $50,000," according to a press release. "Shoppers that buy a max of $400 during the promotion receive a bonus $160 to spend in town."

Now in its sixth year, borough officials estimate the promotion will crest above $1 million in dollars generated for the local economy.

"With this year’s anticipated sale, it means we’ve sold $750,000 and given away $280,000" for a total of $1.03 million, said Cassandra Duffey, Collingswood Director of Community Development.

That excludes face-value sales of Collingswood Cash year-round, which help add an infusion of cash when the bonus money—which expires in March 2014—is gone, Duffey said.
