Symphony in C of Collingswood, Summer Music Camp Preview

Symphony in C and Wamsley Violins announce a special Symphony Summer Camp Open House and Preview.  The event will be held at Wamsley Violins, 26 Tanner Street, Haddonfield and will feature performances by Symphony in C musicians and summer campers.  Information for the camp will be provided and refreshments will be served.


 


In its tenth season Symphony Summer Camp will be held from August 5th through the 17th, 8:30 am-12:30 pm. A culminating Summer Symphony Concert will showcase student accomplishments of on Saturday, August 17th at 2:00 pm in the Gordon Theater.  The camp will take place in the Fine Arts Building on the Rutgers University Camden Campus.

Symphony Summer Camp is open to students studying string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments who will be entering grades 6 – 12 in fall of 2013.  Musicians will receive private lessons from Symphony in C’s professional musicians and participate in side-by-side rehearsals with their teachers, and sectionals as the students prepare for their end-of-camp Grand Finale Performance. Students will be introduced musical performance, with daily lessons designed to enhance music skills, as well as teaching children melody, pitch and ear training-all essential skills for aspiring musicians. All campers receive the music and book materials they will need for the camp, as well as a recording of the final concert

Paul Bryan, an alumnus of Symphony in C’s Professional Development Program, who has served as Director of Summer Symphony Camp since it began in 2004. Mr. Bryan is the Interim Dean of the Curtis Institute of Music as well as serving as a faculty member at Temple University’s Esther Boyer College of Music and the Artistic Coordinator and Conductor of Bravo Brass, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra’s brass ensemble program.  Mr. Bryan also served previously as Director of Bands at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia and a faculty member at the Hartwick College Summer Music Festival & Institute in Oneonta, New York.  Mr. Bryan is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and Temple University.
