Five Things for This Week: 9/24/12 to 9/30/12

There's lots of stuff to do this week, from the $27 shopping event to the Blessing of the Animals. Plus: a school board meeting, movie night, and marching band contest.

1. Collingswood Board of Education Monthly Meeting
Monday, Sept. 24 - 7 p.m. at Zane North All-Purpose Room

Come find out the latest from the elected and appointed leaders of your school district. The meeting agenda is typically published a few hours before the meeting, so check back on the board website throughout the day Monday.

2. Collingswood Movie Club
Tuesday, Sept. 24 - 7 p.m. at the Collingswood Public Library

Patch movie blogger Robert Castle takes you inside one of his favorite films, Woody Allen's Crimes and Misdemeanors, the existential drama starring Martin Landau, Mia Farrow, and Anjelica Huston. Allen netted two Oscar nominations for the film, one each for writing and directing.

3. $27 on the 27th Shopping Event
Thursday, Sept. 26 - 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Help support Collingswood stores and restaurants when the latest Camden County "Shop Local" event kicks off in town. Bring your receipts totaling at least $27 to the Pop Shop to be entered in a drawing for Collingswood Cash. For more details about the event, read our preview.

4. St. Francis Day Blessing of the Animals
Saturday, Sept. 29 - 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church

Celebrate the Feast of St. Francis with an outdoor service and blessing of the animals. All pets—properly restrained—are welcome, as are "cherished, stuffed animals that might be in need of a blessing" for children. Stick around after the service for refreshments and Refreshments and “treats,” and make a donation for local animal shelters. Call 856-858-0491 for details.

5. Band Bash 2012
Saturday, Sept. 29 - 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Collingswood High School

Come celebrate the home show competition of the Collingswood High School Marching Band. For just $10 ($5 for students, seniors, and children), you'll get to see performances by the marching bands from Pitman, Clearview Regional, Woodbury, Haddonfield, Triton Regional, West Deptford, Timber Creek, Gloucester City, Barnegat, Pemberton, Union City—and, of course, Collingswood. Concessions will include hot food, drinks, and baked goods; plus, a 50/50 raffle and music-related merchandise.
