Explosions at the Eagle Point refinery complex in West Deptford could be felt through much of South Jersey Saturday morning, prompting more than a few emergency calls in towns in Gloucester and Camden Counties.

Demolitions experts were bringing down the fractionator at the complex—a massive tower used in the refining process—and a pair of other stacks in a controlled implosion.

The noise carried for miles—fire and police officials in Collingswood said they received multiple calls about possible explosions locally, but said the Eagle Point work was to blame.

Calls elsewhere, including Blackwood and Magnolia, were blamed on the demolition, as well.

I guess it would have taken too much effort to alert the media AHEAD of time?

Nothing will run a business out of an area like a tax shake down. Word is, many of the pieces of the old refinery are heading over seas.
