Record Heat Possible Today Before Turning Cooler

Today's record high is 90 degrees, set back in 2002. Will it be broken? Read this week's PatchCast to find out!

The record high for today is 90 degrees, set back in 2002. 10 years later, we have a good chance of tying this record. A Bermuda high sitting east of Georgia today will bring us mostly sunny skies and a very warm (if not hot) southwesterly wind. Combine this with the warm sector ahead of a cold front that will approach the region tonight, and Philadelphia will likely reach the record high of 90 degrees. This cold front will likely come through dry tonight as it weakens, so we won't have to worry about the severe weather that affected the Midwest over the weekend.

High pressure builds back in on Tuesday and gives us another mostly sunny day. It won't be as warm, but it will still be warm, with a high near 80 degrees. A weak disturbance will move through late in the day on Wednesday, bringing with it just some clouds and a 30 percent chance of a shower. However, the clouds will hold temperatures in the upper 60s. On Thursday, a mix of sun and clouds is expected. A low pressure system will pass by to the north Thursday afternoon, and there is a 30 percent chance of a shower associated with it. Thursday's high temperature should be around 70 degrees.

A weak cold front moving through on Friday will bring a 40 percent chance of a few showers. Otherwise, a mix of sun and clouds is expected with a high near 75 degrees. A storm system will organize over the lower Mississippi Valley on Friday night and move toward the northeast over the weekend. This system could bring us the most significant rain we have seen in a while. Gray skies are expected on Saturday with the developing rain. High in the mid-70s. On Sunday, a leftover shower is possible, and then clouds should give way to sun. It will be cooler, however, with a high temperature in the upper 60s.
