Photo Gallery: Knight Park Playground Installation

Kris Forrest, a parent of four, reflected on the Knight Park playground build Thursday.

Collingswood Patch received the following note and accompanying images from Kris Forrest, a volunteer who has been tied closely with the Knight Park playground renovation project for the past five years. Forrest described the scene Thursday in starting to close out the project.

"It was a great day at Knight Park! There weren't a whole lot of volunteers today, because it was a week day (work day) and there were quite a few year-end school activities scheduled today in Collingswood.

"Still, it was awesome that some folks made it out anyway. The first phase was done in 2008, so it's great to have the rest of the equipment going in now. The picket fence will be installed over the next few weeks—reinforced, to deter vandals. Many people supported this effort to build a new playground in Knight Park, by buying personalized pickets; and it was disappointing to see many of them vandalized. That shouldn't happen again.

"But today's focus was installing the playground equipment, and it looks great. I really feel like an important part of this community when we—volunteers!—come together at an event like this, for such a great reason: a playground for our kids.
