UPDATE: Got Brown Tapwater in Your House?

Collingswood Water Superintendent Tom McCarthy said the issue is related to a pump test at the new well being drilled in town.

UPDATE: According to Collingswood Borough officials, some discoloration in the water supply is also the result of a water main being struck on Haddon Avenue during the Lumberyard construction project yesterday.

Collingswood Director of Community Development Cass Duffey said that such occurrences are not uncommon in the normal course of construction, and that the incident was the fault of the contractor on the project.

A pump test on the new water well being drilled in Collingswood has led to water discoloration in some homes in the borough on Thursday evening.

"We have a well down because of the new well being drilled," Tom McCarthy, Collingswood Water Superintendent, told Patch.

"When you first start them up, they're high in iron," McCarthy said.

Residents experiencing brown tap water are advised to run their faucets with cold water until it clears up, and the problem should clear up in 20 minutes or so, McCarthy said.

The entire process should be resolved in about six days, McCarthy said.

"The longer you run the well, the better it gets," McCarthy said.
