1. Don't Frack NJ Community Kick-Off

Come learn about "fracking"—hydraulic fracturing, and what it can do to drinking water. Gov. Chris Christie recently vetoed a ban on fracking waste, and this community group has one message for state officials: New Jersey is not a dumping ground for toxic fracking waste. 

2. Meet Director Zofia Hausman at GMO-Free NJ
Thursday, Oct. 18, Collingswood Public Library, 771 Haddon Ave., Collingswood

A coalition of genetically modified food (GMO) awareness groups will host Zofia Hausman, a producer and director getting ready to release her documentary, The Agtivists. Meeting Hausman and learn more about GMO foods.

3. Collingswood Crew Beef & Beer Benefit
Friday, Oct. 19, 7 p.m., Collingswood Community Center, 30 W. Collings Ave., Collingswood

Cold beer, hot roast beef and helping out a good cause? Count us in. Come support the Collingswood crew team's efforts with this fundraiser dinner at the Collingswood Community House. $25 will get you in, full of sandwiches and beer and access to the basket raffle and 50/50. 4. A Very Potter Musical
Friday, Oct. 19, 7:30 p.m., Collingswood Middle School, 424 W. Collings Ave., Collingswood

You've read the books, you've seen the movies. Now come watch the musical that mixes up Harry Potter's world into a stage show. It begins with Harry's second year at Hogwarts. Professor Quirrell, the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, reinstates the House Cup Tournament, and a champion from each House is chosen to compete. But when Voldemort uses the tournament to fulfill a plot to return to his body, things take a turn for the grim for Harry and his friends, who must find and destroy Voldemort's Horcruxes before it's too late. 

5. Collingswood Jr. Women's Club Fall Festival
Saturday, Oct. 20, noon, Knight Park (rain date Saturday, Oct. 27) 

Collingswood Junior Women's Club will host its annual Fall Festival in conjunction with the PTAs of five local elementary schools, near the Park Pavilion in Knight Park. Enjoy live music, fall-themed food, hay rides, pumpkin-themed games, painting and more, all to support the PTAs.

Bonus! Shades of Poe
Oct. 18-20, 25-27, 29-31, 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Collings-Knight Homestead, 500 Collings Ave., Collingswood 

Six rooms, six spirits, six tales of woe—Fractured Mirror Productions presents Shades of Poe, a theatrical presentation of Edgar Allen Poe's more chilling works. It all takes place at the Collings-Knight Homestead, where the last residents moved out 50 years ago. Or did they? Some unhappy spirits have taken up residence in this local history museum. If you'd like to meet them, the master of terror himself, Edgar Allen Poe, will guide you from room to room to listen to their tales of woe.

Tickets are $15 and the audience is limited to 15 for each performance. Advanced tickets are suggested through shadesofpoe.com or 1-800-838-3006. This production involves walking, climbing stairs and moving through dimly lit areas. Recommended ages: 13 and up.
