PRINCETON  September 30, 2013 - March Against Monsanto Princeton announced today that on October 12th,  people from across the Garden State will join tens of thousands of activists around the world in the  “March Against Monsanto.” The march will start at 2:00 pm at Whole Earth Center and will feature speakers including Jim Walsh of Food & Water Watch; Barbara Thomas of GMO-Free NJ; Laurie Hunstman, President of the Whole Earth Center Board of Directors;  Kathleen McKenna, Carol Grace, wife of Vietnam Agent Orange victim, and Carla Díaz Stringel who will speak on Monsanto's Corn in Mexico.

Theresa Lam, an organizer of the event, says she was inspired to lead the march in order to bring awareness of the issues surrounding genetically engineered (GE) foods.  "The majority of the people want GE foods labeled, and the New Jersey legislators are considering such legislation. We are asking people to join us to show their support for labeling and to raise awareness about the importance of voting with their wallets by purchasing organic local foods. “The full March Against Monsanto mission statement can be read here.

“It seems like it is every day that new research comes out challenging the safety of Genetically Engineered foods, highlighting the impact it is having on farmers, public health and the environment.  Without labels consumers have no way to know if the foods they are eating have been genetically engineered and are being asked to risk their safety and the safety of their families with this risky technology" said Jim Walsh, New Jersey Director, Food & Water Watch.

Barbara Thomas of GMO-Free NJ commented "Three billion people on this planet have the right to know if their food has been genetically altered; shouldn't we Americans share that same privilege?  By marching on October 12, we would like to inspire people to see that we can take on this challenge together to effect change towards a healthier and more sustainable future for all."

Partners working to organize the March Against Monsanto Princeton include GMO Free NJ, Food & Water Watch of New Jersey, Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Jersey, and The Whole Earth Center.  The official website for the global March Against Monsanto: https://www.facebook.com/MarchAgainstMonstanto
