Ravitz Family Markets $24,000 Donation to Make-A-Wish® New Jersey Keeps Hope Alive for Two Camden County Children

Shaking hands with princesses, laying on sandy beaches, posing for pictures with characters — these are some of the lifelong memories made possible by a recent $24,500 donation from Ravitz Family Markets to Make-A-Wish® New Jersey. The funds, collected by Ravitz Family Markets employees in its five ShopRite supermarkets in Burlington and Camden counties, sent two local children affected by life-threatening medical conditions on a Disney Cruise Line® trip with their families.

“Hope kept Nicole going,” said Wendy, Nicole’s mother, whose family received one of the wishes supported by Ravitz Family Markets’ Cares Program.  “Knowing that she had something to look forward to and imagining all of the fun things ahead truly improved her spirits and helped her endure the difficulties of her illness.”  Ravitz Family Market’s donation also supported 12-year-old Victor, who wished to go on a Disney Cruise.

A recent study reports that the Wish experience can improve a child’s physical health, and empower him or her to fight.  The Cares Program has donated $75,000 to Make-A-Wish New Jersey since 2007.

“Our core business may be selling food, but helping our neighbors through difficult times, putting a sparkle in a child’s eye, giving people hope when they had none before—this is a testament to who we are and to the heart of our our employees,” said Steve Ravitz, President of Ravitz Family Markets.

About Ravitz Family Markets’ Cares Program

This employee-managed initiative drives Ravitz Family Market’s outreach programs in the communities surrounding its five ShopRite supermarkets in Burlington and Camden counties. Cares Committee members choose non-profit organizations to support and engage more than 1,000 of their fellow employees and tens of thousands of customers in the effort.  Employees have raised more than $500,000 for local non-profit organizations simply by asking customers and vendors to help.

About Make-A-Wish® New Jersey

Make-A-Wish New Jersey has brought hope, strength and joy to more than 7,600 seriously-ill children throughout all 21 counties since 1983. The foundation grants wishes to medically eligible children between the ages of 2 ½ and 18 years old. A wish is the child’s answer to the question, “If you could have one wish, what would it be?” Learn more about how children answer that question and how wishes are granted at nj.wish.org.
