On September 12, Russell Byers Charter School became a training ground for “Building Adventure 2013,” a fearless fundraising campaign that supports programming at nonprofit Philadelphia Outward Bound School. Collingswood resident Hayley Boyle – along with local business leaders, Philebrities, and students – were invited to test the ropes [and harnesses and anchors] in a two-story practice rappel down the side of the Charter School building, before tackling the 31-story One Logan Square for the main event on October 18.
Bigger [and 11 stories higher!] now in its second year, the October 18 “Building Adventure” fundraiser is designed to reflect Outward Bound’s innovative youth development work, and replicate what the organization encourages young people to do every day: challenge themselves, discover untapped potential, and use it to make positive change in the world. Participants in the October 18 rappel are required to fundraise $2,000 to earn a spot to rappel, with proceeds benefiting students from underserved Philly communities and teens who have suffered a tragic loss, and funding expeditions for war veterans.
