Before the end of the year, police officers in Camden County could get the OK to carry tasers with their regular equipment.

Two departments got a head start on training in their use at the Gloucester Township training facility Tuesday. The weapons tutorial included a taste of the stun-gun, which is par for the course in non-lethal apparatus, including pepper spray.

"It's one of the worst pains I've ever felt," said Cherry Hill Lt. Sean Redmond.

Currently, only Gloucester Township, Cherry Hill and the county sheriff's department have signed up to carry tasers. Their adoption won't be greenlit until the Camden County Prosecutor's Office finishes drafting a policy for their use—something spokesman Jason Laughlin said is "imminent."
