1. The Virtual High School Project (VHS)
In collaboration with other high schools around the United States, VHS is designed to serve the dual purpose of virtual course study and the development of computer and web-based skills. Students log on to the database either from home or at the high school media center, to perform and submit class assignments online. Students also have access to a discussion section, where they can interact with teachers and other pupils. The VHS project offers more than 140 courses, all providing permanent credit toward the students’ transcripts.
2. College Now
This exciting initiative will introduce students to the collegiate environment. By enrolling in Camden County College or another local, community-based college, students can participate in college courses while simultaneously fulfilling their high school requirements—either on campus or in a community setting. This experience will introduce students to college-level courses while immersing them in the entire university experience.
3. CHS Ship & Senior Mentor Programs
These programs will give students hands-on experience in assisting teachers with classroom management, activities, mentoring and tutoring. The Collingswood High School Ship Program uses in-classroom involvement under the guidance of a teacher. The Senior Mentor program requires students to make a one-year commitment to help other students with decision-making skills, acting as role models and building relationship skills.
4. Field Career Experience
This opportunity, extended to high school seniors, will allow students to work directly in a field of interest and gain hands-on experience. Students will be able to choose a course of study based on their interests, and can earn class credits via the program.
5. Independent Study
In this program, which is designed as an adjunct to traditional classroom study, students will have the opportunity to select an independent study program. A teacher will oversee their course and the student will gain class credits. While independent study will not go toward fulfilling graduation requirements, it can serve as a supplementary program that also introduces the student to a self-directed study system.
