Moms Talk Q&A: Cold Remedies
We want to know what our mommy readers think. Share your thoughts with us in Moms Talk Q&A.
After last week's installment of Moms Talk Q&A, which highlighted Sick Kids, and after reading several posts in various Mom's groups this week, I realized that many mamas out there are looking to share home cold remedies for their little ones.
This is likely due to the fact that most "cold" medicines are suggested for children six years of age and older.
While I've only been a mother for three-and-a-half years, I've worked with children for over 15 years. During that time, I've heard about many home remedies for colds.
And I want to share the few that have worked best for my little one.
Note: Always ask your peditrician before using any of these cold remedies.
- Orange juice—and plenty of it! (watered down, of course)
- Use any brand of children's vapor rub before bed, along with a vapor wall plug-in (works wonders for nighttime coughing)
- Place a humidifier in your child's room. (for toddlers, who may touch things in their room at night, I'd suggest placing the humidifier out of reach—my own toddler has pulled up the water container, spilling it all over the floor)
- Good old chicken noodle soup, since sodium in chicken broth helps children retain fluid, preventing dehydration (here's a quick, easy recipe from Complicated Mama for Easy as ABC Chicken Noodle Soup)
This is where I'm reaching out to our Collingswood Patch readers.
