Missing dogs from Barrington. Have you seen them?

A reader from Haddonfield-Haddon Township Patch notified us Sunday night about a pair of missing dogs from nearby Barrington.

Both are Labrador Retrievers. The yellow male is Fang, 7; 80 pounds and neutered. The black lab answers to Jade; she is seven years old, 80 pounds and spayed. Fang has a microchip, and Jade does not. They are normally treated at the West Deptford Animal Hospital.

Owner Heather Woodward said that since the dogs went missing September 18, she's put fliers up in shelters from Salem County to Burlington County.

"They're not in any shelters," she told Collingswood Patch. "They all know about the dogs," she said. "A bunch of vets know."

Woodward said her family lives on a cul-de-sac, and the dogs have gotten out of the yard "plenty of times," but have always come back. She even remarked that "Fang" should have been named "Houdini," as he's opened latches with his nose and jumped a six-foot stockade fence.

"That night, the smoke detector went off in the house, and it spooked them, and I think that that made them a little further," she said.

Woodward, who owns Woody's Landscaping Service in Barrington, said she is distraught at their loss, and that "the only thing that gets me through the day is thinking that somebody has them.

"They're not dead on the side of the road; the police would have told me," Woodward said. "Somebody has them.

"We'll take any help we can get," she said.

I hope they find their dogs, we have a few of our own and would be really upset if they went missing. However, Patch, please don't consider this breaking news and send me an email stating such. At minimum give me the option of opting out of the pet alert service.

Thanks for the feedback, Kevin. We typically issue breaking news alerts for a variety of things that may be either time-sensitive or of high importance.

Missing pets and persons frequently fall into both of those categories because we want to get the info out to anyone who might be able to help the search as quickly as possible. As you acknowledge above, I am sure if it were your pet missing, you'd want the alarm sounded as soon as you knew.

We also tend to issue alerts if a lot of time would elapse between when we find out about the news and our 6 am regular e-mail. Today's story about Lisa Fago, for example, initially went up in the early morning hours; we didn't issue an alert because our traffic indicates that most people would get the information by the morning e-mail anyway.

There's unfortunately no way to break out our alerts by category. My best advice is that if you find it's not applicable to you, feel free to ignore the e-mail.

Honestly, Kevin. People are heart sick over their missing dogs and you have to complain about receiving an email alert about it. Grow up!

Kevin ----- do you think that Patch can pick and choose who gets a particular email and who does not? Don't you think that the Patch news goes out to everyone on the list of members? So whenever there is an alert of a missing pet, you want Patch to block you from receiving that particular email?

Haven't seen them around Collingswood, Haddon Twp. area. I was active years back with an animal shelter and specialized in lost dogs.

It seemed to us at the shelter that labs seem to go missing more than anyother breed.

Thank you for treating this as breaking news. These are two lives at risk and dogs are a very important part of our families. Jo Ann M. Barrington

No Sunshine, I was asking Matt if there is a way for me to opt out of what I (not you) consider non-alert material. Are you done lecturing me? If so go back and re-read my post.
