Krispy Kreme Officially Open

At 6 a.m. today, customers got their very first bites of Collingswood Krispy Kreme.

At 6 a.m. Tuesday, customers in their favorite Krispy Kreme treats.

And by 9:30 a.m., before an official ribbon-cutting ceremony began, said hundreds of people had already stopped into the doughnut shop. 

"We had over 200 people come in since we opened this morning at 6 a.m.," said Zaslow to kick-off the ribbon cutting. "We're happy and pleased to be in Collingswood."

Collingswood Borough Commissioners Joan Leonard and Mike Hall and Mayor James Maley were on-hand at the ceremony, with Maley cutting the ribbon.

"I'm proud to say we're making doughnut history in the state," said Maley of Collingswood Krispy Kreme being the . "And if today (with 200 customers by 9:30 a.m.) is any indication of how business is going to be here, I think you're going to do just fine."

"And now we have a doughnut shop on the East and West ends of Collingswood, so it's like we have two additional police substations," Maley joked. "So (the opening of Krispy Kreme) will do wonders for public safety, I'm sure."

Michele Gibison, of Haddon Township, brought her 2-year-old daughter, Natalie, to Krispy Kreme's official opening Tuesday morning. 

"We're here just for the opening," said Gibison. "Oh, the doughnuts are delicious, amazing. I've been waiting months for this place to open. We travel a lot, and we see all over the place, but none around here. Now we've got one at our home base."

Gibison remarked how the location is family-friendly, with children's tables, kids' books and complimentary crayons on-hand for the youngsters. 

"I can bring my entire family here; my husband can come grab a cup of coffee on the weekends while my daughters play in the kids' section," she said. 

Like her mother, little Natalie had nothing but positive things to say about coming . 

"I like (the doughnuts) with the sprinkles; they're my favorite," said Natalie, fiercely shaking her head "no" when her mother asked for a bite. "We're going to bring some doughnuts home for my sister. I think she'll like the sprinkles."
