Kids' Bike Race Brings Out 150

In one of Collingswood Junior Women's Club's most successful July 4 kids' bike races ever, 150 children showed up and rode the course.

Exactly 150 children gathered in The Knight Park at 10 a.m. Monday, July 4 to participate in the annual Collingswood Junior Women's Club Bike Race

Last year's bike race drew only 100 kids.

And Monday morning, every bicycle, wagon, stroller and rider was decorated in patriotic Independence Day style.

The event, an annual tradition for the past five years, had children riding their bikes around a circular paved path in The Knight Park.

Collingswood Junior Women's Club Vice President Michelle Miller, who organized the 2011 bike race, said the event was a success.

"We had well over 100 bikes, wagons, strollers, and scooters," said Miller after Monday's race. "It was an amazing show of patriotism."

Miller thanked the Collingswood American Legion, who provided free ice cream—in the form of an enormous Mr. Softee ice cream truck—after Monday's event.

She also voiced appreciated for the Collingswood Police Department, whose officers escorted children through the bike race course; and Collingswood Borough, which provided donations and prizes to the day's bike decorations winners.
