Governor Christie first told the story. These photos confirmed it.

A local photographer captured the partial destruction of the Seaside Heights Boardwalk.

In Seaside Heights, "the roller coaster or the log flume is in the ocean," Christie said.

"The level of devastation at the Jersey Shore is unthinkable," he said.

Rides and chunks of one of the town's piers are in the water, Christie said.

Now is time for the rebuilding, once the storm moves away. it won't be easy.

Jerz Boy, keep your negativity to yourself. People's homes and possibly lives were in harm's way. This is no time for BS like that. I send my thoughts and prayers to all my friends and former neighbors in Seaside Heights and hope everyone is at least safe, and hopefully their homes intact as well.

I live at corner of Blaine and Barnegat water got waist high. There was only water from Central Ave to Bay Blvd. The water basically cut town in half long ways. The ocean block came over into the streets but damage was minimal, the wind damage is another story but everything is still standing. Wish I could tell you more. My prayers to everyone, I hope everyone makes it through this tough time, because I know I'm havin a hell of a time!

Ann Marie, is the water waist high in the street or in the house? What kind of wind damage, are windows broken? I live on Blaine and Barnegat also. Can you post a picture?

Former NJ resident, moved to Arizona 45 years ago, but I had roots in Scotch Plains & Fanwood; also some early memories of "the shore" (we call it "the beach" out west) as well as a recent visit to Seaside Heights & the Waretown area. So sorry to see and hear all of this. Godspeed to you all,

I would like to think and pray that the town that made those kids so famous and rich would be able to depend on in rebuilding. Seaside does not need you kids back there, but maybe some $$$$ assistance with starting some funds would be a great way to start.

Schu- why don't you stfu.....there is NO need to blame anyone for this..it is a NATURAL DISASTER.....everyone seems to want to blame the "Jersey shore cast" but ya know what think about how much money they drew in to the town and surrounding towns...so why don't u quit blaming and ask what you can do to help...people have lost everything so you should be thankful you have a home to be rude from.....
And mark who are you to say that we don't need them back here...did u stop to think that just because you may not like the way they act they are people too? They have feelings and they are hurt by this as well they considered this their home...how would u feel if someone said they didnt need you back somewhere...as a matter of fact I believe one of them lives in toms river and could very well have lost a lot as well....
To anyone who has lost it all of lost friends or family....my prayers are with you and we as a state will work together to get back what we all lost...

Dawn,
I spent my summers at 786 North Dr. in Brick, NJ in the original house built around 1930. Did North Dr. get hit hard? I'm a NJ native, now living in AZ, but LOVED going to the shore house. Hope you didn't lose too much.
