Student-Musicians Earn Conference Band Honors
Joseph and Rachel Freehling, Philip Treu and Sophia Oehlers successfully auditioned for the Olympic Conference Honors Band Jan. 13.
Last week, four Collingswood High School and middle school student-musicians passed their auditions for the 2013 Olympic Conference Honors Band.
High school clarinetists Joseph Freehling and Philip Treu and French horn player Rachel Freehling will represent CHS, and Sophia Oehlers of Collingswood Middle School was selected to first chair oboe.
The Olympic Conference Homors Band performs February 5 at Washington Township High School in Sewell.
Congratulations to all four students as well as to their director, Joseph Lerch, for this achievement.

Congratulations! This is no minor achievement.
It saddens me though to not see any other posts in support of these talented students. Had this been 4 members of the football or basketball team you can bet the house that there would be a dozen posts praising the coach and players.
Oh, and for the record, it is a well documented fact that, on average, musicially inclinded students are one of the highest academically performing groups in schools. Sadly, in Collingswood, it's one of the lowest groups when it comes to funding (hint hint BOE!).
My apologies to Joseph, Philip, Rachel and Sophia for using your recognition as a spring broad for a larger message - but I think you all understand (too well unfortunately).
Again, congratulations and keep up the great work!
