Collingswood Job-Seeker Victimized in Craigslist Fraud

Police say the man is out $4,000 thanks to an online scammer.

A Collingswood resident who was answering help wanted ads on Craigslist found himself the victim of a check-cashing scheme that ended up costing him $4,000.

Collingswood Police were notified Feb. 6 of the incident, in which the victim was corresponding with an out-of-state contact who purported to be offering a driver's job. At some point in their exchange, the victim was asked to deposit checks into his personal bank account and forward the cash to the sender.

The checks, it turns out, were fraudulent, and the victim lost $4,000 in the exchange. Police say the investigation is active and they are working to identify the individual behind the act.

"We caution people when they engage in activities like this," said Cpl. Tom Hartshaw of Collingswood P.D. "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

People must be Care full answering Job postings and help wanted ads on Craigslist. Recently got a job trough a help wanted posting. So not all job and help wanted ads are scams on Craigslist. But If anyone asks you endorse a check, cash it for them and this person is unknown to you do not do it folks. Use some common sense when dealing with the unknown.

I had an apartment for rent on Craigs list. I was contacted by a so called Doctor from England. I looked the "doctor" up on the Internet and called the Hospital where he said he worked. He wasn't who he said. He was trying to run a monetary scam on me. I was desperate to get the apartment rented but am so glad I didn't get pulled in. Feel very bad for our local resident. By the grace of God go I.
