Clay Oven Palace Opens in Collingswood

The Indian restaurant opens on Haddon Avenue, and features a special for the next two weeks.

Collingswood cut the ribbon Tuesday on its third Indian eatery in town, welcoming Clay Oven Palace into the borough's restaurant fold.

Mayor James Maley snipped the ribbon Feb. 26 with Clay Oven Palace owners Kumar and Sunila Joshi and a crowd of supporters.

For the next two weeks, Collingswood reports, the buffet is on special for $9.95.

Clay Oven Palace is located at 329 Haddon Ave.; the phone number is 856-854-7300 or 856-854-7302.

Hours are Tuesday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-9 p.m.; Friday 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.; closed Monday.

I went there tonight and they said they're working on a site, but they have a facebook page. The place was awesome for the value.

No website, that I know of. I need to double check on the hours. Either the ones I got were wrong or we have our first place to get Indian food until 3 a.m. - which I wouldn't be complaining about.

This is exciting! It can't hurt to have another option in addition to Indiya (I am not a fan of IndeBlue).

Okay - Not sure if they are closed on certain days, but I just called the restaurant and learned that the hours are 11:30-3:00 for lunch and 5-9:30 for dinner. They also do take out.

Beat me to it! I stopped in a bit ago, and will add the info to the story. Very nice owners and staff in there.

Looks like the Indian's and Italians will be fighting it out. HOPING for a "homestyle" breakfast place like those see in Philly (Green Eggs, Honey, Sit & Eat, Sabrina). Yes, I know the Pop Shop has a great breakfast but I would like one without 20 kids screaming in footy jammies for a change.

I have no idea why Knight's Bistro doesn't serve breakfast. It would be ideal, and I imagine it would be profitable.

totally agree with this-- it's needed. Pop Shop is THE MOST overrated place in the universe, kids or no kids.

On a similar note, Little Louies just closed. Good idea but not the best execution and not a great area for something like that. Very "roadside" type of place and that doesn't fare well when you are off the beaten path. Our 2, 3 trips there met with some room temp (cold?) beef brisket but the soup and biscuits were awesome.
As far as Knights Bistro is concerned and please don't quote me on this but I was told that they planned a different kind of set up but the borough made them "rethink" what went in that spot. Unfortunately, I don't see them being long for this world as they too often seem empty. That is a PRIME location for a spot that big to be that sparse.

I remember there was a similar situation with Little Louie's - they envisioned a seat-yourself concept that was meant to more casual, but the borough made them change it. There seems to be a bias against "fast casual" operations, with the exception of Salad Works.

That may be idle gossip, but I do remember the eventual concept was different from the execution.

While you're waiting for the breakfast-themed place, check out brunch at West Side Gravy - we've loved it every time we've been.

Excited to check out Clay Oven Palace!

I went to Clay Oven Palace tonight and loved it. Here's my yelp post:

I had the wonderful buffet. Everything was excellent. Fresh warm naan was delivered to my table. The owner and waitress was very attentive. I was brought dipping sauce when they could see I didn't have any for my samosa. I also was brought tandori chicken directly from the kitchen. I think they did a great job with decorating and the music was nice. The owner was super sweet and very nice to talk with.
I have to give this place 5 stars because it's much better than what was expected. The food is excellent at a very affordable price. I spent less than $20 and was treated better than in most restaurants that label themselves as "fine dining".

Pleasantly surprised how amazing Indian food can be :) I am a newbie at trying this type of cuisine and rarely dine at places I unfamiliar with. Wow, the buffet offered me the opportunity to try so many different types of Indian cuisine dishes I would have never ordered in the past not knowing what I was getting into. There food is not too spicy, creamy or greasy at all! I am now hooked on the food served at Clay Oven Palace and I am excited to also try the other yummy dishes this restaurant does offer. Not only is the food and service great but you do NOT have to fight for a parking spot because they located right outside the congested downtown parking area and have tons of FREE off street parking available everywhere!
