Camden County could be blanketed in a few inches of snow starting tomorrow morning as a weather system is making its way here over the weekend.

Meteorologist Mitchell Gaines, with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, said the county should get at least 2 inches of the white stuff and potentially more, as the storm pushes north and spreads over the county by mid-to-late morning. It should end in the early evening, with Sunday expected to be sunny and breezy.

Crews are already preparing for the winter blast, county officials said, pre-treating roads with brine, and have 60 pieces of equipment ready in 12 districts across the county to handle salting and plowing for 400 miles of county roads.

“Even though county crews are brining roads in advance of the storm and plowing once we experience accumulation, we still remind motorists to remain cautious and give themselves extra time to reach their destinations,” said freeholder Ian K. Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works (DPW). “Anyone on the roadways during this weather event should be prepared to encounter icy or slick road conditions.”

The temperature will be in the low 30s Saturday morning and rise to the upper 30s in the afternoon before falling back into the 20s overnight into Sunday, which has prompted the county to issue a Code Blue advisory for homeless people and others who may need shelter.

“During these weather emergencies, we encourage everyone to check on elderly or handicapped relatives or neighbors that live alone,” said Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez, liaison to the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services. “It is important that those among the most vulnerable are not be left without heat or electricity.”
