On Friday morning, December 21, a small black-and-white dog showed up on our front porch in Collingswood (at the corner of Highland Avenue and Browning Road).
She would run off every time we'd try to get close to her. We were finally able to get her into the house around 6:30 p.m. and feed her. Almost Home Animal Shelter in Pennsauken came by and picked her up so she's in their care now.
She's very sweet and affectionate. She has a tan collar on. If you're her person or know her people, please contact Almost Home at (856) 663-3058.

OMG, why could you not have held onto the dog and given the owner a chance to see this Patch posting. With the Holidays everyone is trying to catch up with their normal routine. They may even be away.
It is nice that the animal is not out on the streets but you know they put animals down when their owners are not found.

Peeches, for a multitude of reasons that are none of your concern, we could not take responsibility for the dog. If we could, we would have. Thus, we followed the advice given to us by police and numerous other people and reached out to a shelter that is well known for its care and compassion for animals.
Also, the fact is the dog may not be lost but instead may have been dumped by her owners. The holidays are a notorious time for people to dump their animals and the folks we dealt with said there has been a huge jump in numbers of abandoned dogs. Just in the past month, we've seen three stray dogs in the vicinity of our home and have attempted to help each one.
Finally, rather than pointing fingers, why not try to help this dog like we did and we are still doing? And like our friends are doing? Share the information with people. Let people know she'll be available for adoption if her people aren't found.

I guess you living soooooo close to Camden, you might see more abandoned dogs. Perhaps you should change your address. I do know what the police say and I do know how the procedure at Almost Home works. Been there, done that. Talk about "pointing fingers," I am sure I give more to the shelter(s) plueral, than you and your well meaning friends have every thought of doing. Don't care about your personal problems, however; sorry your family is having the multitude of problems as you say and better luck in the New Year..
